The Best Sequencer Ive Used by Anon_2567Vote
Im a big fan of this asset. Ive built my own event-sequencers outside of Unity, dealt with a couple of other directing tools Ive gotten from the UAS, and this one is better than anything else Ive tried out. It has a few issues, such as being difficult to really just jump right into (another review covered this pretty well), but its simple enough that it takes only a day or two of educating yourself on its uses before you can fully utilize its capabilities. You cant treat it casually and just jump into it, its going to change the way that your whole project workflow is managed and you need to treat it respectfully, but if you do, itll reward your efforts ten times over. Its ridiculously easy to create new sequence event types, getting them to control or influence whatever aspects of your program you like from basic transform information to statemachines, triggering animations and dialogues (if using a dialogue system, its compatible out of the box with most of them), sounds and music, lights and camera adjustments, and just about anything else you can think of. You can direct a scene in much the same way that any movie is directed, and the results can be phenomenal.

Theres a sequencer thats supposed to come built-into Unity eventually, but the dates for its release keep getting pushed back, along with the long-needed improvements to the NavMesh system. At this point, with VR and other flashy new features taking up so much of the Unity devs development time, Im starting to think we wont see it until next year at the earliest. I wouldnt wait on getting a good sequencer on the vague promise of the Unity devs, and if you need a cutscene manager / event sequencer before then, this is a great one to try out, and its quite cheap for the kind of functionality that it gives you (being on sale for the summer for half off, at US$30).

Now that Unity's own Sequencer is coming on Unity 5.5 on June 7 (Hope it doesn't get delayed again)... Cinema Director & Sequencer looked like a complicated thing. The Unity Sequencer looks like a revamped animation timeline with focus on making cutscenes, and it's great! You can just drag an object then do something with it like you do with animation clips. While in Cinema Director you have these groups, from my understanding each group pertains to a certain object and that inside of a group you can insert preset commands that you want to do with it, (I don't know if it supports custom commands because I stopped using it out of frustration, but I think it do supports that because it should at that price tag). You can also do more with Unity Sequencer, that "compositor" is really something.

Moving on with the UX, Cinema Director isn't much responsive, and isn't blunt about what you can do about it. I'm a big fan of software where you can just learn it by messing around with it, and with Cinema Director learning by just messing around is a bit hard.

The code base of Cinema Director I think is also a bit of overkill, for me there are alot of the code parts that can be improved, and shortened. And I literally walked away because I can't stand reading it. I want to read codes that are crystal clear.

I must say though that the performance of this is actually quite nice, profiling the sample scene included and throughout I got little to no GC Alloc, and low time ms. Probably that's the nice thing I can say about this.

I just also want to say that as a Vegas Pro user, I find Cinema Director really odd to work with. Especially when I found about Unity's Sequencer which is almost close to real video editing with lots of power!

TL;DR version
I think it's better for you to wait for the upcoming Unity Sequencer than this, or if you do need a sequencer already then just get this on sales, you might also try uSequencer which is of lower price, I haven't tried it myself yet but it looks promising from the demos I've seen.

As a layman in terms of video editing (and if you want things to go fast) I found the cinema director sequencer easy-to-use. Even though this is a program that can be used by professionals in game developing and video editing the platform can easily be used by a person who is just new to it as well. I did not even need to do any scripting or programming which is nice.

Out of the many amazing features that this program offered, the thing I liked most is their extendable actions library. This had about 60 cool actions, which consisted of transitions, animations, etc. This made it extremely easy for me to embed actions and animations into my video. This also offers several other convenient features, such as easy-to manage shot tracks and audio tracks.

+Open source

+ Multi-Actor Grouping (I don't know what it is so it must be very important)

+ Works with Playmaker

+ Allegedly never crashes

+ Seems to update often on users requests

I would assume this is the or one of the best. But I havn't tried all of them so I can hardly tell.
